VICTORY FIVE VS EDWARD GAMING LPL SPRING BETTING PREVIEW

V5 and EDG are set to lock horns on the Summoner’s Rift for the second time this season on Thursday, following V5’s upset win at the Demacia Cup.

V5 started their 2020 season with an underwhelming 13th-16th place finish at the Demacia Cup, where they showed some glimpse of greatness with wins against Gama Dream and EDG but fell flat against Top Esports and LGD Gaming.

V5 made quite a few roster changes in the off-season, as they signed three new players in top laner Li “997” Hao-Feng, jungler Pan “Xiaohan” Han, mid laner Chen “clx” Yi. They join bottom laners Li “Max” Xiao-Qiang and Wang “y4” Nong-Mo, while Tao “Windy” Xiang has switched position from top lane to mid lane.

Last season, V5 finished the LPL 2019 Spring Split in 13th place and LPL 2019 Summer Split in 12th. They also claimed a ninth-16th finish at NEST 2019. Based on those results, V5 are not expected to contest a playoffs spot.

Prior to the 2020 season, EDG were something of an enigma. With their silver medal at the Demacia Cup, however, it is clear they mean business this year.

Only three Chinese teams have ever hoisted the Demacia Cup: EDward Gaming (6), Royal Never Give Up (3) and Invictus Gaming (2). While EDG missed out on winning the tournament for the seventh time, their runner-up finish is a good indication of how strong they are heading into 2020.

EDG have made some roster changes since last season, parting ways with Wu “BBD” Ling-Feng Wang “Sleepy” He-Yong, Jeon “Ray” Ji-won and Hu “iBoy” Xian-Zhao. Also, Ming “Clearlove” Kai stepped down as the team’s jungler after almost six years to become the head coach.

Wang “Hope” Jie steps up from the academy team to replace iBoy, while Zhao “Aodi” Ao-Di returns after three years as EDG’s new top laner. Both players are 19 years old, which suggests EDG are going for a youth movement. Joining Zhao “Jiejie” Li-Jie will be former FPX substitute Chang “Xinyi” Ping.

EDG are historically the most dominant team in the LPL. While they are miles from what they used to be in 2016-2018, we can’t count them out as a serious playoff contenders.

VICTORY FIVE VS EDWARD GAMING LPL BETTING PREDICTIONS

V5 are seen as heavy underdogs heading into this bout, which is right on the money. They might have bested EDG during the Demacia Cup, but that win was – with all due respect – a complete fluke.

EDG are far superior to V5 in every way, and we expect that to show here. That EDG made it to the Demacia Cup finals shows they are one of the top eight teams in the league, and possibly even one of the top five.

We expect a clean sweep from EDG and with esports bookmakers offering very generous odds, we will gladly take the -1.5 map handicap.

Prediction: EDward Gaming -1.5 maps – -120.48 at BetOnline
