Once a dominant force in the world of esports, OG has suffered a major setback.

Despite being two time champions of The International they have failed to qualify for the 2023 Dota 2 tournament, which is a first in the history of their organization.

OG’s young team, formed in 2021, initially showed promise by meeting the standards set by the organization.

However as the 2023 Dota 2 season unfolded cracks started to appear throughout the year, and OG found themselves on the verge of relegation.

Struggling to maintain consistency, the team faced challenges in finding the missing piece of their puzzle and experimented with switching their position five players multiple times between Mikhail “Misha” Agatov and Evgenii “Chu” Makarov.

Due to visa issues faced by both support players OG ultimately decided to enter the qualifiers with veteran Sébastien “Ceb” Debs and Kartik “Kitrak” Rathi.

Although OG was elimination from the upper-bracket they fought hard and managed to make their way back through the lower-bracket.

They secured victories in two series before encountering Quest Esports.

Quest has emerged as one of the standout performers during the stages of the 2023 DPC season.

The team became more of a threat after they added Tobias “Tobi” Buchner, from Entity to their roster this month.

Their improvement resulted in them ending OG’s dreams of winning TI12.

Despite the outcome the players and staff of OG remain optimistic.

However, OG’s elimination signifies the end of an era in Dota 2 esports.

The teams two victories at TI and numerous other accomplishments have firmly established their position in the games history.

Although they won’t be competing at TI12, OG’s legacy will serve as an inspiration, for generations of players.

Fnatic leaves Dota 2 scene “temporarily” after DPC Tour results https://www.improbablebook.com/fnatic-leaves-dota-2-scene-temporarily-after-dpc-tour-results/ https://www.improbablebook.com/fnatic-leaves-dota-2-scene-temporarily-after-dpc-tour-results/#respond Sun, 12 Feb 2023 18:58:28 +0000 https://www.improbablebook.com/?p=28140 One of the most notable esports organizations is stepping away from the Dota 2 scene after poor results in DPC SEA Division.

The post Fnatic leaves Dota 2 scene “temporarily” after DPC Tour results appeared first on Esport Bet.

]]>
One of the most notable esports organizations is stepping away from the Dota 2 scene, at least temporarily. Southeast Asian team Fnatic has announced that it will disband its Dota 2 roster and temporarily step away from the division.

The decision was reached after Fnatic produced subpar results at the SEA DPC Tour, where its roster went 1-6 in the DPC SEA Division I first season and was dropped to Division II.

Fnatic informed fans of the development on Twitter, revealing that it was proud of its decade-long journey in Dota 2. The organization also said that being a part of the esports scene allowed them to display their “competitive drive, high performance and industry-defining brand” and create a passionate fan base in Southeast Asia.

“Recently we have been forced to reflect on the sustainability and future of the title for Fnatic, and ultimately, to make a difficult but necessary decision to temporarily withdraw from the DOTA 2 pro circuit,” read the statement.

“We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all the players, staff, and members who have been a part of this incredible journey, alongside our incredible fanbase who have made our journey in the SEA region so special.”

The organization also gave an update on the players on its Dota 2 roster in the post. According to Fnatic, they would make sure to put the players and staff in new homes before formally making their exit from the DPC Tour 2023.

Fnatic’s current Dota 2 roster consists of Djardel “DJ” Mampusti, Armel “Armel” Tabios, Jaunuel “Jaunuel” Arcilla, Damien “kpii” Sau-jing, and Kim “Gabbi” Santos.

In the meantime, the roster will continue playing together and finish their run in Beyond The Summit’s Pro Series Season 14, to which Fnatic was invited.

The organization concluded the announcement by promising to support each of its Dota 2 players while they took the next steps in their careers and thanked them for their years of contribution.

While Fnatic did not specify the date of their return or under what conditions it would be, the team mentioned that the withdrawal was temporary several times. The organization made a similar cut at the start of the year when they put a successful CS:GO academy project on hold.

Fnatic started playing in Dota 2 in 2011 with a Serbian lineup and, by 2012, became a household name with Johan “N0tail” Sundstein’s Heroes of Newerth squad. In 2015 the organization moved to Southeast Asia and became one of the most successful squads in the region.

Fnatic has since had several talents on its Dota 2 lineup, including Abed “Abed” Yusop, Yeik “MidOne” Nai Zheng, Saahil “Universe” Arora, and Daryl “iceiceice” Koh.

The group has notably made appearances at Dota’s premier The International every year since 2023, earning it a nine-year streak. Fnatic and Evil Geniuses hold the position as the second highest attendance at the event, while LGD comes first with its 10 times attendance.

Fnatic’s most impressive finish at the event was a fourth place finish during their run in TI6 led by Chai “Mushi” Yee Fung.

Considering that Fnatic competed in The International 2022 months earlier, relegation was possibly not in the cards for them. Their TI11 run was not particularly impressive, as Fnatic finished in 13th place. Legendary players in the region were brought on to bulk up the team; however, they did not fare much differently after.

Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) Western Europe Tour 1: Division I continues with the second round on Wednesday, January 11, and ESB is back with our betting predictions for Team Secret vs OG and Nigma Galaxy vs Tundra Esports. Here are our Dota 2 selections with esports betting odds courtesy of BetOnline.

TEAM SECRET vs OG Dota 2 BETTING & MATCH DETAIL

Best Odds: Secret -500 at BetOnline | OG +333 at BetOnline

OG lost their opening Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) match of the 2023 season on Monday when they had to admit defeat to Tundra Esports (0-2). But despite kicking off the new season with a loss, OG played well and looked very competitive on the first map.

It’s not fair to make any conclusions after just one series, but we liked what we saw from OG, who displayed strong teamwork. But most importantly, the newest signing Dmitry “DM” Dorokhin seems to have fit in with the team well.

Team Secret had a rough start to the 2023 season. They looked completely lost against Team Liquid, which likely had to do with Micha? “Nisha” Jankowski who knows how to defeat Team Secret. Still, even with that in mind, we have a hard time defending Secret’s display.

It’s hard to criticise Secret after just one game, but we can safely say that OG looked better on Monday. At even odds, Secret would be the right play, but $2.25 on OG offers solid value.

Tundra Esports took no prisoners on Monday when they defeated OG (2-0) with a very clean performance. We already know what we can expect from Tundra in the opening DPC tour of 2023, but we don’t know much about Nigma Galaxy.

Despite struggling in 2022, Nigma Galaxy decided to keep most of its roster intact – adding just Ammar “ATF” Al-Assaf as a replacement for Amer “Miracle-” Al-Barkawi. Some might disagree, but this wasn’t a bad call, as we don’t feel Nigma Galaxy had to change much to be competitive.

They had their ups and downs, but this is a stacked roster, which can pop off – and likely will if ATF fits in with his new teammates.

As the Dota 2 betting odds suggest, Tundra Esports should win, but we have high expectations for Nigma Galaxy, who are good enough to win a map or even upset the reigning The International champions.

Esportbet returns with our free coverage of Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) Eastern European 2023 Tour 1: Division I bouts on Tuesday, January 10. Here are our picks for Natus Vincere vs Team Spirit and Nemiga Gaming vs Darkside, with Dota 2 betting odds courtesy of BetOnline.

NATUS VINCERE vs TEAM SPIRIT Dota 2 BETTING & MATCH DETAIL

Best Odds: NaVi +450 at BetOnline | Spirit -833.33 at BetOnline
When: January 10, 2023 | 12:00 CET
Watch Live: Twitch (https://www.twitch.tv/paragon_eng)

Natus Vincere kicked off the 2023 Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) season with a rough loss (1-2) against Darkside, despite winning the first map of the series convincingly. NaVi were even in a winning position on the final map, but a poor teamfight execution handed over the game to Darkside.

Team Spirit have yet to play a game this season, but they were active just over a month ago when Yaroslav “Miposhka” Naidenov and co. attended BetBoom Xmas Show. The former The International champions played well in the warm-up event, took down Entity, HellRaisers, and Gaimin Gladiators in the semis (2-0), but then lost the grand finals (2-3).

We would view Team Spirit as a much stronger team than NaVi even had they not performed well at BetBoom Xmas Show. But their run to the finals proves that Spirit are ready to dominate the Eastern European league.

NEMIGA GAMING vs DARKSIDE Dota 2 BETTING & MATCH DETAIL

When: January 10, 2023 | 15:00 CET

Nemiga Gaming lost their season opener against HellRaisers (1-2) quite badly. They had a solid showing on the second map, which they won with a +26k net worth, but were very disappointing on the first and third map, ending with a combined kill score of 17-56.

Nemiga’s next opponent, Darkside, reverse-swept Natus Vincere (2-1) on Sunday, mainly thanks to Maxim “re1bl” Afanasyev, who had a phenomenal performance on Lesharc and Death Prophet. His teammates didn’t disappoint either, but we can expect Nemiga to have their hands full trying to stop the ex-HellRaisers mid laner.

But despite losing the game, Nemiga Gaming enters this bout as $1.57 favourite, which doesn’t make much sense. They looked far worse than Darkside in the opening week and unless they drastically improve, this should be Darkside’s game.

ESB’s free Dota 2 betting predictions for Tuesday, January 10, focus on a pair of Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) China 2023 Tour 1: Division I bouts. Check out our selections for Xtreme Gaming vs EHOME and PSG.LGD vs vs Knights, with betting odds courtesy of BetOnline.

XTREME GAMING vs EHOME Dota 2 BETTING & MATCH DETAIL

When: January 10, 2023 | 16:00 CST

Xtreme Gaming had a rough start to the 2023 Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) season. They needed three maps to defeat Aster.Aries (2-1) and then lost against Team Aster (1-2). But there’s a silver lining: Xtreme Gaming played well against Aster on Sunday and had their chance to win.

EHOME won both of their DPC 2023 CN Week 1 series against Invictus Gaming (2-0) and Dawn (2-0). They had a fairly easy schedule, so we wouldn’t overreact to EHOME’s perfect run, but they have played much better than expected.

EHOME are in much better shape ahead of this bout, but they’re still individually weaker than Xtreme Gaming, so it makes sense to see them priced as underdogs. Still, if EHOME keep their wheels spinning into the week of the season, it’s not too crazy to believe that they can win at least one map.
Xtreme Gaming looked lost against Aster.Aries on Friday, and if we see another such performance on Tuesday, EHOME might even come out on top.

Despite the roster changes, PSG.LGD looked just as good in the season’s opening week as you would expect from this team. They demolished Dawn Gaming (2-0) and added another commanding victory against Aster.Aries (2-0).

Even though PSG.LGD had to face fairly weak teams in Week 1; they hadn’t shown anything that would make us doubt them ahead of this match. However, they’re set to face a capable team that had some glimpses of greatness last week.

Knights lost their opening match of the season against Team Aster (1-2), but they fought well and added a strong performance against Invictus Gaming (2-0). It’s difficult to make any conclusions from just two games, but the Knights look strong, and they just might be able to cause some problems for PSG.LGD.

At the offered betting odds, we wouldn’t back PSG.LGD. Even though they’ve shown more in the first week of the season, it’s hard to believe that they’ll look as dominant when faced with stronger teams. This is a crucial match for Su “Flyby” Lei and his crew, and if they can show the same performance as they did against Team Aster, we should be in for a close series on Tuesday.

Knights is a new team entering the Chinese Dota Pro Circuit (DPC), fielding a roster built around the ex-Sparking Arrow Gaming duo Xiao “XCJ” Chaojian, Su “Flyby” Lei. They teamed up a strong trio of Luo “eGo” Bin, Vincent “AlaCrity” Hiew, and Chong “FelixCiaoBa” Wei Lun.

The roster has some talent but features mostly tier-two talent who are coming in from SEA and China, which doesn’t sound too promising. But Knights have the potential to be good, and we wouldn’t be shocked if they turn some heads in the first tour of the season.

Team Aster made two roster changes in November, with the addition of Zhai “Xwy” Jingkai and former head coach of Elephant and Vici Gaming, Bai “rOtK” Fan. Aster were powerful last year, with a silver medal from ESL One Malaysia 2022 and a top-four finish at The International 2022, and there’s nothing to suggest Aster can’t be as dominant in 2023.

Still, at $1.10, we wouldn’t bet on Aster to win, nor are they appealing at $1.50 to cover the map handicap. Knights look weaker, but they are stronger than the market suggests. Moreover, we’re early into the season, so we expect a bit shakier performance from Aster, which should be enough for the outsiders to steal a map.

Xtreme Gaming made two roster changes, signing Thiay “JT-” Jun Wen and Daniel “Ghost” Chan from Invictus Gaming and Royal Never Give Up, respectively. The latest additions make Xtreme Gaming a very scary team, but it’s not like they weren’t solid last season.

Throughout 2022, Xtreme Gaming underperformed a bit relative to the expectations, but they have finished inside the top three in all but one event – The International Last Chance Qualifier (fifth-sixth). They claimed silver medals from Intel World Open Beijing, DPC CN 2021/2022 Tour 2: Division I, and Chinese TI 2022 qualifiers, a title from OGA Dota PIT Season 6: China, and third-place finishes in DPC CN Tour 2 Regional Final, and Tour 3: Division I.

Due to not making many roster moves, Xtreme might be one of the top teams in the opening tour and should eventually find themselves in a tight race with PSG.LGD and Team Aster for the status of China’s top Dota team.

Aster.Aries didn’t achieve much last season besides reaching the upper division with a runner-up finish in DPC Tour 2: Division II. For 2023, Aster.Aries added just one new player in Liu “White丶Album” Yuhao, and replaced coach Chen “86” Yuxuan with from Ou “Op” Peng.

On paper, it seem like Aster.Aries should be more competitive this term, but they’re going against one of China’s most stacked teams with solid synergy. There’s room for upsets in the new season’s opening week, but this looks like a clean 2-0 sweep for Xtreme Gaming.

Esports event organizers PGL made a shocking announcement – Team Legacy has been removed from the second division of the North American Dota Pro Circuit esports tournament for 2023. This comes as a surprise to many fans and players, as Team Legacy has been a mainstay in the NA DPC for the past several years.

Team Legacy secured its spot in Division II of the 2023 NA region during the off-season by dominating the NA Closed Qualifiers, becoming the first team to qualify. However, PGL’s announcement ultimately rendered their efforts during the Closed Qualifiers fruitless.

PGL, the organizers of the NA DPC for the 2022/2023 season, took to Twitter to announce that Team Legacy will not be participating in the second division of the DPC 2023 NA Winter Tour. Although PGL did not provide a detailed explanation for Team Legacy’s dismissal from the tournament, they mentioned that the team was no longer deemed eligible to participate in the upcoming DPC tour, causing confusion among fans and players.

“CDUB Esports will replace Team Legacy in the DPC 2023 NA Winter Tour Division II. The replacement was made as Team Legacy is no longer eligible to play in this DPC tour,” PGL announced.

After Jake “SirActionSlacks” Kanner’s team, Arkosh Gaming, failed to qualify for Division II of the NA DPC 2023, some members of the community jokingly suggested that Arkosh could fill Team Legacy’s spot after the latter was removed from the tournament. However, the spot was ultimately given to CDUB Esports, the third-place finishers in the NA Closed Qualifiers.

CDUB Esports will be joining Another NA Team, Eternity, Fart Studios, felt, Penguins Squad, Team DogChamp, and The Cut in the second division of the 2023 NA DPC. Another NA Team and Penguins Squad made their way to the league after being awarded the slots of 5ManMidas and simply TOOBASED, respectively.

The tournament is scheduled to commence on January 30 and run till February 19, with a $75,000 prize pool. The top two teams in the tournament will secure direct qualification to Division I and the bottom two teams will be eliminated, while the remaining teams will remain in the division.

Recently, several teams and players have faced severe consequences from tournament organizers, including permanent bans or removal from regional leagues. One recent example is the Myanmar-based organization Yangon Galacticos, which was disqualified from the Closed Qualifiers of the Southeast Asian (SEA) DPC after accusations emerged that their carry player was using scripts during matches.

EHOME vs INVICTUS GAMING Dota 2 BETTING & MATCH DETAIL

Best Odds: EHOME +162 at BetOnline | IG -227.27 at BetOnline

EHOME aren’t getting much respect ahead of the first China Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) Tour of 2023, mainly because there were speculations of EHOME selling its spot due to issues forming a squad. And even though EHOME shut down the rumours, it built a last-minute roster mostly of lower-tier players.
The new-look squad has some pre-established synergy with Wong “mks” Sim An and Lee “X1aOyU” Qian Yu joining EHOME from RSG and two players in Tang “Salad” Xiaolei and Liu “Lww” Weiwei, who have experience competing in the upper division. So there are some positive things to take from EHOME’s new squad, but we don’t expect this roster to be very competitive.

Invictus Gaming also made substantial changes, bringing in Zhou “Dust” Shiyuan, Cui “qyqx” Chenyang, and Li “Irving” Jian from Team MagMa and Wilson “poloson” Koh, formerly of Team SMG and Nigma Galaxy SEA. The quartet will team up with Zhou “Emo” Yi, who extended his stay with IG for one more year.
On paper, Invictus Gaming look stronger, but it’s hard to take their side at the offered Dota 2 betting odds. So even though it’s hard to say how EHOME’s roster will do, they should be good for at least one map.

PSG.LGD vs DAWN GAMING Dota 2 BETTING & MATCH DETAIL

Best Odds: PSG.LGD -2000 at BetOnline | Dawn +750 at BetOnline
When: January 5, 2023 | 19:00 CST
Watch Live: Twitch (https://www.twitch.tv/pwrdesports1)

Despite the team’s success in 2022, which includes two DPC titles, Riyadh Masters 2022 trophy, a silver medal from PGL Arlington Major, and a quarter-finals finish at The International, PSG.LGD decided to make roster changes ahead of this season.

With the signing of Guo “shiro” Xuanang, Li “xiang yu” Longwu, and Lin “planet” Hao, PSG.LGD completely revamped its lineup, which doesn’t look as scary as the 2022 iteration. But it’s hard to doubt PSG.LGD’s ability to build one of the top rosters in the region.

Dawn Gaming, who took over the slot from Royal Never Give Up, field a mixed roster of former Sparking Arrow Gaming and LBZS players, who’ll link up with He “Docres” Ercong – a 26-year-old player with no professional experience. Besides Docres, about who we don’t know much, Dawn Gaming field a solid roster that should compete for a top-four finish while beating PSG.LGD might be too much to ask from them.

PSG.LGD should come out on top, but we have to acknowledge that early-season fixtures tend to be far more open, which often favours the outsiders. Dawn Gaming with a 15.5 kill handicap (on both maps) at $2.02 looks like the right play in our book.

Dawn Gaming +15.5 Kills

Nuengnara “23savage” Teeramahanon has broken his own record, becoming the first Dota 2 professional to reach a 13,000 matchmaking ranking (MMR).

He took to Twitter to share the achievement, displaying an image that showed the statistics with a caption saying, “After 3 weeks of playing 24/7 I reached 13k mmr.”

Since the conclusion of The International 2022, the Thai player has been dedicated to achieving success in the Southeast Asian servers. After three weeks of intense gameplay, 23savage has reached his goal and is well-prepared for the upcoming 2023 Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) season.

23savage’s achievement is particularly noteworthy due to the fact that he was the first player to reach 12,000 MMR in the year 2021. The year before, he became the second player to reach 11,000 MMR.

It is worth noting that 23savage accomplished this feat on the SEA server, which is known to be one of the most challenging Dota 2 matchmaking pools in the world. Many players from other regions have experienced significant losing streaks when playing public matches on the SEA server.

The increased level of difficulty in the Southeast Asian server is largely attributed to the intense competition among players in the region. Due to the high demand for core positions among a significant portion of the player base, there is a shortage of dedicated support players in the region.

This situation has sparked debates among core players, as some are forced to play support roles. Additionally, language barriers add to the challenges of grinding for MMR in the SEA server.

Many in the Dota 2 community have celebrated 23savage’s accomplishment. Fans and fellow players alike have expressed their admiration for his skill and congratulated him on this impressive feat.
