Only one series remains before we find out who will be crowned the 2022 LoL Pro League Summer champions. In a rematch of their upper-bracket final clash, JD Gaming and Top Esports will battle it out this Thursday in a best-of-five series.
Top Esports ended the LPL Summer split regular season as the number one seed, finishing with a 13-3 record and a +20 map difference. They may have finished equal on wins and losses with JD Gaming, but TES were the best team in the LPL all season, only losing a staggering nine maps up until the start of the playoffs.
The two catalysts behind Top Esports finishing inside the top two were their best two players, Zhou “knight” Ding and Yu “JackeyLove” Wen-Bo, who were dominant in their lanes in many of TES wins. JackeyLove and knight have KDAs of 4 and 4.5, respectively, and they also had the highest kill participation outside of their support. If TES are going to take out the LPL Summer split and get revenge on JD Gaming, their two stars need to have a big series.

JD Gaming finished behind Top Esports in the standings at the end of the regular season with the exact same win-loss ratio but only a +18 map difference, which meant they were relegated to the second seed. JDG were also very, very good this split, only losing 12 maps throughout their 16 series, with their two defeats to Royal Never Give Up and FunPlus Phoenix coming in tight encounters.
The majority of JD Gaming’s matches have been won off the back of their outstanding bottom lane. Their AD carry Wang “Hope” Jie and support Lou “Missing” Yun-Feng have been one of the best bottom-lane duos the LPL has seen in some time. With Hope having a 5.6 KDA and 74% kill participation and Missing with a massive 9.3 KDA and 77% kill participation, these two are the players that Top Esports will have to stop.
JD Gaming definitely have the wood over Top Esports, beating them during the regular season and also at their last meeting in the upper-bracket final. However, TES will have learnt a lot from that last encounter and we think it will be a very tight series, much like the last. The best bet for this series is to take the overs in the total maps market, as each of their last two matches went the distance.
